Keep bugs at bay this summer – with clever insect protection

Hey summer, you're finally here! We've missed you – those warm evenings on the patio, freshly squeezed lemonade, popsicles. There's just one thing we could easily do without: all those creepy-crawlies in our homes. Mosquitoes, flies, wasps, and ants everywhere. Outside? Yes, please! Inside? No, thanks! But how do you break the news to these uninvited guests gently? It's simple: with reliable insect protection.

What are the benefits of insect screens?

Fly screens and similar solutions are a must-have during the warmer months. They make your life easier in no time.

1. Sleep better

Is annoying buzzing and nighttime mosquito bites keeping you awake? Reliable insect protection ensures quiet, restful summer nights – keeping those pests outside where they belong.

2. Good for your health

Say goodbye to itchy bites and nasty swelling! A screen keeps those little pests away, while also minimizing the risk of allergic reactions.

3. Mechanics instead of chemicals

Insect sprays pollute indoor air and leave chemical traces on furniture and textiles. Fly screens on windows and doors are the smart, completely chemical-free alternative for a healthy indoor climate.

4. Stay clean

Insects leave unsightly marks on walls, lamps, and window panes. With insect protection, your home stays clean – and your food as well as your refreshing summer lemonade are safe from hungry wasps.

5. Ideal for Rental Apartments

Great news: insect screens and the like are also welcome in rental apartments – especially insect protection without drilling. With clever adhesive, hook-and-loop, magnetic, or clamp systems, these helpers can move into your home without a drill. This is not only quick, easy, and convenient, but also leaves no residue. Simply remove, clean, and you're done.

And don't forget: your food also benefits from decent insect protection. Finally, no more wasps in your homemade lemonade!

Which insect screen is right for you?

Not all insect screens are created equal. Available in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and materials, they block pests from entering your home. Below, we would like to introduce you to the classics for a bug-free home, which you can also find in our online shop:

1. Fly Screens with Magnetic or Hook-and-Loop Tape

Looking for something simple, quick, and affordable? Then bring home a fly screen with magnetic or hook-and-loop tape. The concept is simple:

  • Open the door or window.
  • Carefully attach the magnetic or hook-and-loop tape to the frame.
  • Cut the fly screen to your desired dimensions.
  • Secure the screen onto the magnetic or hook-and-loop strip on the frame – and you're done.

2. Tension Frames

For standard-sized windows and doors, tension frames are the perfect choice – fixed frames that come with the fly screen already pre-tensioned. They not only look premium but are also incredibly easy to install and remove. But which tension frame is the best fit for your home?

• Plastic Frames: The lightweight champion of fly screens – quick to mount and ideal for standard sizes – especially the pop-up screen. Simply clamp it in place and you are good to go.

• Adjustable Aluminum Frames: Want flexibility – but without the hassle? Telescopic aluminum frames offer both. With just a few simple steps, you can adjust them to fit your windows and doors – completely without drilling or sawing. Everything you need for assembly is already included in the box. No extra materials required.

• Custom-Fit Aluminum Frames: Fly screens made to measure? Grab your tools and customize the frame systems to perfectly fit your windows and doors. It might take a bit more effort, but the result is much more precise. Perfect for custom sizes and tricky installation spots.

Important: When it comes to fly screens, the measurements are key. Before buying, make sure to measure the exact window and door size – both length and width. These details are especially crucial if you have permanently installed roller shutters. Roller shutter boxes and guide rails must not get in the way of the screen, ensuring that your insect protection and privacy screen don't interfere with each other later on.

3. UV Light Insect Traps

You don't always have to rely on classic insect screens for doors and windows. How about an electric helper like UV traps for a change? The concept: using UV radiation, they mimic natural sunlight. This draws insects in like a magnet, hence the famous saying "like moths to a flame." They quickly fly toward the simulator and end up trapped.

Dos and Don'ts of Insect Protection

A bug-free home that still looks great? Sure, with these tips and tricks, it's no problem at all.

Dos

Fine-mesh screens: The finer the mesh, the fewer insects in your home. Keep mosquitoes out with a mesh size of 1.1 to 1.5 millimeters, and for smaller pests like fruit flies, feel free to go even finer.

Don't forget skylights: Many unwelcome insects sneak in through them – so be sure to install fly screens there too.

Keep it clean: Pollen, dirt, and dust can quickly get caught in the mesh. This blocks your view and reduces airflow. But don't worry: you can get your screen clean again in no time with just water and a brush.

Double up: Combine fly screens with electric UV traps for maximum protection.

Don'ts

Cleaning with too much water: Excess moisture on the screen not only damages the delicate material, but also creates the perfect breeding ground for mold.

Less is more? Not when it comes to fly screens. If the balcony door is sealed, pests will just find their way in through the tilted kitchen window.

Location is everything: UV insect traps should never compete directly with your room lighting.
